Folders in Telegram

A week after the appearance of filters in Telegram for macOS, the functionality also appeared in Telegram for iOS. Now this is not called filters, but folders. Quick access to them is carried out by a long tap on the “Chats” icon.

Previously, this action helped to find unread chat. If you miss this feature, you can add the “Unread” folder (it is in the recommendations when creating the folder), and go to this folder, you can do this by holding the same “Chats” tab and without lifting your finger to select an already added filter.

At the moment, the user can add only 10 folders.

Together with the gesture in the chat list, you can configure folders by going from the settings to the appropriate section.

For convenience, switching between folders provides “Tabs”, between which the user can navigate by “swipe”.

There are two ways to navigate folders:

  1. Press the “Chats” tab, and select the desired item.
  2. Swipe right or left, be sure to place your finger in the middle of the chat (if the finger is from the left or right edge, you initiate the action with the chat).

Using folders, the user can create the so-called tabs with the division into “Personal chats” (your contacts and people not from the notebook), “Groups”, “Channels” and “Bots”. To do this, when creating different folders, the user will need to select certain categories. Telegram allows you to choose the following: your contacts and people not from the notebook, groups, channels, bots and any other specific dialogs. You can include several categories for one folder at once, or even all at once.

At the same time, during the creation of the folder, the user can exclude some chats from the folder, for example: chats from the archive, silent, read and any other specific dialogs.

Folders that are visible on the top as tabs are easy to swap. There are several ways to do this:

  1. Hold any tab, wait for the menu to appear, select the last item (Reorder Tabs), and with the usual hold we change the position of some tabs.
  2. Go to the folder settings from the settings or from the menu by long pressing the “Chats” tab, and click the “Change” button in the upper right corner.
